LORNE PERRY is an exhibition designer, landscape artist and photographer.
He is also a published author, teacher (and learner), and lecturer. His experience as an exhibition designer for the Telus World of Science in Calgary spans twenty-three years, and matches the growth of the centre from a planetarium to an extremely high visitation science centre. In that time he has been intimately involved in all the facets of the creative development process from concept, research and evaluation, through design to fabrication and installation.
Lorne finds the world to be a very beautiful place and is attracted to the challenge of communicating that discovery and instilling confidence. The great reward for him is witnessing the “aha!” moments when exhibition visitors really understand. They “get it”. Lorne is, by nature, a teacher. He intuitively understands the learning process and incorporates communication strategies into his exhibits that appeal to a variety of learning styles, target ages and interest groups.
Lorne includes in his skill set:
- excellent creative design skills
- strong project management and collaborative ability
- rapid generation of concept visuals
- excellent communication skills with fabricators and contractors
- ability to adjust design to respond to all interpretive challenges
- in-depth understanding of the design process
- a great love of research, of “finding out”
- a full understanding of exhibit design philosophy and didactics
